The New York City District Council of Carpenters (NYDCC) Women’s Committee grew directly out of the first International Carpenters Sisters in the UBC Conference in 2002. At that time there were only about 250 women in the NYCDCC. Out of the seven sisters sent to the conference, five of them decided to start a steering committee upon their return with the support of Executive Secretary -Treasurer, Mike Forde.

The first General Membership meeting of the Sisters took place on February 14, 2003. We have grown to 450 women in the NYCDCC and with that increase the NYCDCC Women’s Committee has grown as well. We currently hold quarterly meetings and are directed by an elected Steering Committee of eleven Sisters. There are numerous sub-committees that all women are encouraged to participate in by lending their own skill and experiences in the industry.
